Greatest Growth

My greatest growth at the Dayton Regional STEM School has been in diverse thinking. I can apply the wide-ranging skills I have learned at DRSS to an even wider range of fields. This growth will help me beyond DRSS by giving me the ability to tackle problems in the future whether or not I have encountered it in high school.

Software Skills

I learned to use Inventor in the 9th grade.  I have been able to use it for Feet for Peggy, a club dedicated to building a prosthetic leg for a footless chicken.  For Feet for Peggy, I used the 3D modelling skills and engineering design process to create a design successfully.

Speaking Skills

I have continually been able to practice public speaking because of the amount of projects that need to be presented in class.  These skills have already helped me as a Networking Student Lead for Cyber Patriot, for which position I teach a class about computer networking.

Collaboration Skills

I worked on two projects in 10th grade that generated my interest in possibly pursuing physics past high school. In both of these projects, I worked with partners who taught me a lot about physics. This is why I appreciate working in groups: so that our common problem can be solved with varying ideas and expertise.

Math Skills

I was introduced to the world of polynomials in the 8th grade. I learned the basics of graphing and gained a strong intuition for the graph of each polynomial. This class has been instrumental in my understanding of advanced topics such as Calculus and also has applications in finding patterns in big data.

Research Skills

I had the honor of being able to intern at the Wright State University Department of Physics during Summer 2019. My career in physics research began here. I was able to use the TeraView laser system, collect data, and do data analysis using MATLAB.
